Seven people were killed and 10 others injured after a fire broke out at a readymade garment factory in Jamgara, Ashulia, on Sunday evening.

The fire started around 6:45 PM at the F&F factory of Preeti Group after a gas cylinder reportedly exploded while being unloaded from a covered van.

Five of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition and could not immediately be identified. Salma Akter, 30, died on the way to hospital, while Bulbul Islam, 45, died while being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Six critically injured people were sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, while four others were admitted to a local hospital.

Four Fire Service units worked to control the blaze, but firefighters faced difficulties reaching the factory because of heavy traffic and poor road conditions. The fire had weakened by 12:15 AM but was still not completely under control.
