Police have arrested Hafizur Rahman, also known as Piyal, for organising a concert in Gopalganj Municipal Park without police permission, where slogans supporting former prime minister Sheikh Hasina were chanted.

Hafizur, owner of FNF Convention Hall and Party Center, was arrested by Gopalganj Sadar police on Tuesday morning and later sent to jail by court order. Police said he had also been arrested in an earlier case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The concert was held on Monday to mark the opening of FNF Convention Hall and Party Center, with singer Mainul Ahsan Noble performing. During the event, some people in the audience began chanting slogans in support of Sheikh Hasina.

Organisers reportedly tried to stop the slogans and announced from the stage that the event was not political, but the chanting continued. The programme was eventually stopped around 9:15pm.

Gopalganj police said the concert had been organised without permission and created disorder at the venue. They also alleged that activists and supporters of a banned organisation had gathered there.

Police said Hafizur was arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act and produced before the court, which ordered his detention.
