Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said allegations involving BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty in the attack and demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur are being investigated.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Wednesday, the minister said no one would be exempt from legal action if their involvement in the incident is established.

The health centre was attacked and looted on September 25 before heavy machinery was used to demolish one permanent and three semi-permanent buildings. More than 200 masked people were reportedly involved in the incident. Police have since arrested several suspects in connection with the case.

Salahuddin also said a police officer at the local station had been found negligent in carrying out his duties. The officer was withdrawn and departmental proceedings were initiated against him.

The minister said political affiliation would not protect anyone accused in the incident. He added that questions about the lawmaker’s possible involvement had arisen and were being examined.

After the attack, a signboard and banners bearing the name “Samomona Dokandar Samabaya Samity Limited” were placed at the site. Several local BNP figures have reportedly been linked to activities involving the cooperative. Reporting by The Business Standard has also identified individuals associated with BNP and its affiliated organisations among those allegedly connected to the attack.

Ferdousi Ahmed has denied involvement in the incident, saying she did not know how her name became associated with the attack.

A case was filed with Shah Ali Police Station over the attack, naming former Dhaka North City BNP member Mohammad Hanif Mia and 200 to 250 unidentified people as accused.
