The government has taken steps to introduce 100 more Pink Buses as the existing 14 buses operating on 13 routes are not enough to meet the transport needs of women travelling to schools, colleges and workplaces.

The decision was discussed at the first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday.

The committee also discussed measures to reduce road accidents, including identifying dangerous intersections and accident-prone areas and taking steps to straighten and widen them. It recommended that new road projects be designed along straight routes where possible.

The meeting, chaired by committee chairman and parliamentary whip Rakibul Islam, reviewed the overall activities of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and its departments and agencies, along with plans to improve discipline on roads and highways.

The committee also recommended an on-site inspection of the current condition of a luxury resort built on 72 acres of land in the service area of the Karnaphuli Tunnel.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, committee members and senior officials from the ministry, its departments, agencies and the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat attended the meeting.
