Nation observes Eid-e-Miladunnabi today

The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi is being observed across Bangladesh today, Wednesday, with religious reverence, commemorating both the birth and passing of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah on 12 Rabiul Awal in 570 AD and died on the same date in 632 AD. The occasion is being observed as a public holiday.

The government has undertaken a range of national-level programmes to mark the day. President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages conveying greetings to Muslims worldwide.

The president also inaugurated the Islamic Foundation’s 15-day Siratunnabi (PBUH) programme at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka.

Under the national observance, the national flag is being displayed at government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions, as well as at installations of the armed forces. Mosques across the country are also hosting special prayers.

Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions abroad are observing the occasion with due respect. Relevant ministries and departments have been directed to take necessary steps to ensure peace and maintain law and order.

The Islamic Foundation’s programme will run from August 25 to September 8. It features Islamic sermons, seminars, discussions and competitions in qirat, hamd-naat, poetry recitation and Arabic essay writing.

The foundation will also hold Islamic cultural competitions for students, organise a calligraphy exhibition and host a month-long Islamic book fair at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

During the fortnight-long programme, prominent Islamic scholars will deliver sermons daily after Maghrib prayers until 10:00 pm.

The events will highlight morality, humanity, tolerance and peace, drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Islamic Foundation and Bangladesh Betar will jointly arrange a seminar, while Bangladesh Betar will broadcast a special poetry recitation programme.

Divisional, district and upazila administrations, city corporations, municipalities and the armed forces will organise discussions and doa mahfils in their respective jurisdictions.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media will air special programmes, while newspapers will publish dedicated supplements.

Various organisations will also arrange discussions, doa mahfils, hamd-naat, poetry recitations, cultural events and quiz competitions highlighting the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with Islam’s messages of peace, brotherhood, patience, human rights and respect for women.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy will hold special programmes for children, including hamd-naat performances, discussions and essay-writing competitions.

Road medians, lamp posts and prominent locations in cities are being decorated with national and colourful flags, along with banners displaying the Kalima Tayyiba.

Improved meals will also be served at military and civilian hospitals, prisons, government orphanages, child development centres and old-age homes to mark the occasion.
