Country music legend Dolly Parton dies at 80

Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer, her family confirmed on Tuesday.

Parton died while receiving treatment at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by family members. Her representatives described her as an artist and philanthropist whose work brought joy and hope to millions.

The singer had stepped back from performing in recent years because of health problems. In May 2026, she cancelled her planned Las Vegas residency, saying she was dealing with health challenges.

Known worldwide as the “Queen of Country,” Parton built a career spanning decades as a singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. She earned 10 Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and numerous other honours, including inductions into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Her best-known songs include “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” the latter of which became a global hit after Whitney Houston recorded it for The Bodyguard soundtrack.

Beyond music, Parton was widely recognised for her charitable work. Her Imagination Library has provided millions of free books to children, while her foundation has supported education and community initiatives.

Her family said a small private funeral service will be held for immediate family members, in accordance with Parton’s wishes.
