Zubaida Pays Tribute to Milestone Tragedy Victims, Hails Spirit of Courage and Compassion

Prime Minister's wife and Vice-President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Dr Zubaida Rahman, on Tuesday said the courage, resilience and humanity demonstrated by the teachers, students and parents in the aftermath of the Milestone School and College tragedy would remain a lasting inspiration for the nation. 

Addressing a discussion held at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in memory of those who lost their lives in the Milestone School and College air crash, she said the compassion, sacrifice and solidarity shown during the difficult period reflected the true essence of humanity.

Dr Zubaida said the examples of courage and selflessness witnessed by both the country and the international community were rare, adding that people standing beside one another in times of crisis represented the highest form of humanity. 

Recalling the tragedy that occurred on July 21, 2025, when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into the Uttara-based educational institution, killing 36 people, including 28 students, she paid tribute to the students, teachers, staff members and others who lost their lives.

She offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls, conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families and expressed heartfelt condolences over the loss of young students, teachers, a flight lieutenant, a coordinator and other victims. She also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident. 

Dr Zubaida said the determination shown by the injured teachers and students despite their traumatic experiences had become a source of inspiration for the nation. She noted that their strength in overcoming adversity would encourage others to face future challenges with courage and stand beside people in times of suffering. 

She also thanked organisations that extended support during the crisis, including the Fire Service, Doctors Association of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman Foundation and the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

In addition, she acknowledged the assistance provided by friendly countries, including the United Kingdom, China, India and Singapore, following the tragic incident.
