Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by 50 percent by 2030, with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam highlighting the country's ongoing efforts to improve road safety.

Addressing the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Improving Global Road Safety, the minister said Bangladesh is pursuing legal, policy and technological reforms in line with the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030.

According to a press release from the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, he outlined initiatives including the expansion of AI-based speed management, improvements to post-crash response systems and targeted highway safety measures, particularly for pedestrians.

Rabiul Alam also reiterated the government's pledge to finalise, approve and enact a comprehensive Road Safety Law by December 2027, in line with the Safe System Approach and international best practices.

Describing road safety as a national political priority, the minister said achieving the 2030 target would depend on sustained political commitment, effective partnerships and shared responsibility.

He added that Bangladesh remains committed to working with the international community to create safer, healthier and more equitable roads for all road users.
