Additional Deputy Inspector General Abdullah Al Jahir has been suspended from service after a police raid on a house he had rented out in Dhaka’s Khilkhet uncovered drugs and led to the detention of 84 people during a DJ party.
The Home Ministry issued the suspension order on Saturday, stating that the incident created a negative perception of the police and severely damaged the force’s public image. Jahir had already been placed on special duty (OSD) shortly after the raid. During his suspension, he will be attached to the Police Special Training School in Rangamati’s Betbunia and will receive a subsistence allowance as per government rules.
The Detective Branch raided the residence in the Khilkhet Police Housing area in the early hours of 19 October. At the time, Jahir was serving in the Rear and Maintenance branch at Police Headquarters. He was attached to headquarters the following day. Officers found a DJ party underway with drug consumption. They seized cannabis, yaba, alcohol and drug paraphernalia, and detained 84 people, including 26 women.
The suspension order described Jahir’s actions as “unbecoming of an officer and contrary to departmental discipline.” It penalised him for misconduct under the rules governing government servants. Jahir had listed the property on Airbnb. The formal suspension came five days after he was first attached to headquarters following the raid.
