Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms caused waterlogging across several parts of Dhaka on Sunday morning, disrupting traffic and creating difficulties for commuters.

The rain began after 4:00 AM and continued until around 8:00 AM. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 49mm of rainfall in the capital between midnight and 9:00 AM.

Areas including Malibagh, Mouchak, Moghbazar, Green Road, Karwan Bazar, Panthapath, Jigatala, Dhanmondi, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Paltan and Madhubagh were affected by waterlogging.

Office-goers and students faced delays as vehicles moved slowly and public transport became scarce. Pedestrians had to walk through flooded roads, while water reached the footrests of rickshaws in some areas.

Rickshaw fares also increased, with some drivers charging nearly twice the usual rates.

The BMD forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in several parts of the country, with moderately heavy rainfall possible in some areas.
