Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said, "July did not happen in a day. The mass uprising of the students and the public took place on August 5, 2024, as a result of the continuous democratic struggle from 2009 to 2024."
He said this at the inauguration ceremony of the July Memorial at the capital’s Osmani Udyan on Monday.
The Home Minister said, "The July National Charter was formulated through long discussions. This July gives the direction of national life. However, July did not happen in a day. The mass uprising of the students and the public took place on August 5, 2024, as a result of the continuous democratic struggle from 2009 to 2024."
Salahuddin Ahmed said, "The history of the bloody mass uprising will always be vivid in national life. It will be our inspiration. We consider July as a guide for building the future. Many writers have to reflect this July in drama and cultural programs. It will not be enough to end it just when July comes or with an annual event. As long as the blood pledge of the martyrs, the expectations of national life, the expectations of July, and the expectations of public life are not fulfilled, the dignity of the martyrs will not be established."
Regarding the implementation of the July National Charter, the Home Minister said, "We have completed the process. Some parts are constitutional, some are legal. Legal and regulatory processes are ongoing. I want to bring such a constitutional process that many can call reform. If they are satisfied with reform, we have no objection. But they, as the opposition party, are not cooperating in the amendment process so far."
He said, "We want to build the Bangladesh of the future generation by capturing the spirit of the July student uprising. For that construction, our leader Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced a plan and is implementing it. All the wishes of the martyrs are part of our plan."
