Police have arrested Sumon, the prime suspect in the murder of 15-year-old schoolgirl Jannatul Tazmin, whose body was found in a paddy field in Cumilla’s Lalmai upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfar Rahman said police teams arrested Sumon in Chattogram early Friday following a tip-off. He was the driver of the auto-rickshaw that carried the girl before her death and was being brought to Cumilla for questioning.
Tazmin, a Class VII student at Farida Vidyayatan in Cumilla city, was found dead around 7 AM Thursday in Jagatpur, near Manumura jungle. An abandoned green CNG-run auto-rickshaw was discovered nearby.
Her father, Abdul Alim, said she left their rented home on October 4, saying she was visiting a friend, and later travelled to Cox’s Bazar. He last spoke to her around 2 AM Thursday. After losing contact, he traced her phone to Lalmai and learned that her body had been recovered.
Her father subsequently filed a murder case with Lalmai Police Station against unidentified suspects. Police said further details would be shared after Sumon’s arrival in Cumilla.
