Autorickshaw driver strangles schoolgirl Tajmin after raping her: Police

The police have unraveled the mystery of the murder of the schoolgirl Tajmin, 15, in Cumilla. The police said that the autorickshaw driver Sumon strangled Tajmin after raping her.

This information was given by Cumilla additional superintendent of police Pankaj Barua at a press conference at the District Superintendent of Police's office at 10:30 am on Saturday.

He said, "On the morning of October 8, a call was received to the National Emergency Service (999) about the body of a girl lying next to the aisle of a rice field in Bhorajgatpur (Uttar Para) village of Lalmai upazila. Lalmai police station immediately reached the spot and started the process of identifying the victim and taking legal action. Later, the victim's father identified the body and the victim's name was revealed as Jannatul Tajmin,15.

Her permanent address is in Jessore district. Due to her father's job, she lives with her family in the Race Course area of ​​Cumilla. Jannatul Tajmin,15, is a 7th grade student of Farida Vidyayantan in Cumilla city. A murder case was filed at Lalmai police station in this regard. As soon as the case was registered, the district detective police and the police station police jointly started the investigation. At one stage of the investigation, CNG driver Sumon Mia, 35, was arrested from Chattogram.

During the investigation and interrogation of the accused, it was found that Tajmin went to rent a CNG-powered autorickshaw from in front of the Tisha bus counter on Bishwa Road, Paduar Bazar at 12:30 am to take her home to the race course. The CNG-powered autorickshaw driver hired Sumon Mia, 35, for the rental. After boarding the CNG-powered autorickshaw, Tajmin went a little ahead and bought bananas and bread from Sumon Mia for Tk 100. Then the accused Sumon Mia told him to take him to his destination via the shotcart road.

Then he took a U-turn from in front of the Nurjahan Hotel and went towards the spot via Chandpurgami Road via Bijra Bazar. Upon reaching the spot, Sumon Mia, the CNG autorickshaw driver, turned off the CNG. Tajmin got scared as the spot was dark and deserted and asked Sumon Mia, the CNG autorickshaw driver, what place it was. Then Sumon Mia said that it was not the race course, it was another place. Then she got down from the CNG in fear and tried to escape. When Suman tried to stop her while she was escaping and fulfill his evil intentions, she started screaming. Then Suman Mia wrapped his towel around Tajmin's neck. At one stage of the struggle, Tajmin became strengthless.

During interrogation, Suman Mia said that he raped Tajmin. Later, he took Tajmin to the paddy field, pinned her to the ground and crushed her head with his foot, ensuring her death. Later, he took the iPhone from her handbag and threw the bag into the paddy field. Later, Suman Mia left his CNG autorickshaw at the spot, came in front of the Kachikata Mosque, took a bath in the pond and went to Bakhrabad in a rented CNG autorickshaw. He hid the iPhone taken from her in the forest on the bank of a pond in the Bakhrabad area and left for Chattogram. The next day, on October 9, Suman Mia was arrested from Chattogram and according to his confession and evidence, the iPhone used by Tajmin was recovered from the jungle on the banks of a pond in the Bakhrabad area.

He said, "We are trying to find out the details about this. Whether any other person is involved in this, whether there was any other motive, we can tell you more about it after a full investigation."
