A fire that broke out at Matrix Garments in the Degerchala area of Gazipur Metropolis has been brought under control after three hours.

The fire was brought under control around 6:00 PM on Saturday (October 3) through the efforts of nine Fire Service units.

Earlier, around 3:00 PM on the same day, the fire originated on the third floor of the factory's eight-story building. Upon receiving the news, three units from the Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station initially rushed to the spot. Later, one unit from Konabari, three from Gazipur, and two from Rajendrapur joined the operations.

The Fire Service reported that 69 people who fell ill from smoke inhalation were rescued and taken to various local hospitals. Bringing the fire under control proved difficult due to the lack of a nearby water source and the absence of an in-house fire extinguishing system in the factory.

Saidul Alam Chowdhury, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, stated that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be known following an investigation.
