Gmail is rolling out a new “Copy code” shortcut that allows users to quickly copy verification codes from two-factor authentication emails without opening the message.
The feature is available on both Android and iOS and is reportedly appearing in Gmail for Android version 2026.09.07.x and iOS version 6.0.260907. It is not currently available on Gmail’s web version.
The new pill-shaped button appears below the email subject alongside the message preview. Tapping it copies the verification code directly to the device’s clipboard, allowing users to paste it into the relevant app or website.
The shortcut is designed to make sign-ins using email-based one-time passwords more convenient by removing the need to open the email and manually select the code.
Android users already have a similar option for copying verification codes received through SMS notifications via Google Messages.
Gmail has also received other recent updates, including Live Search and chat features. In July, Google updated the Gemini-powered Help Me Write tool to let users give custom instructions for editing email drafts, along with new undo and redo controls for AI-generated changes.
