Police have detained three people for questioning over the murder of 13-year-old Yashat Shahriar Oprotim, the only son of Comilla University teacher Dr Nahida Begum and KM Firoz Shahriar.

The detainees were identified as Tuhin, Anas and Fahim. Cumilla Sadar South Police Station OC Mohammad Rakibul Islam said the investigation is ongoing.

Tuhin was detained around 3:30 PMon Saturday after CCTV footage showed him with Oprotim on the Comilla University campus for about an hour. Anas and Fahim were detained later in the evening.

Oprotim had been missing since Friday after leaving home with his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends. His father later filed a general diary with police.

Police recovered his body from a jungle in Kotbari on Saturday. The OC said the boy had severe injury marks on his head and that the circumstances of his death were being investigated.
