Young man hacked to death in Tongi
A 23-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly over previous enmity in Tongi, Gazipur, with the victim dying at the scene from excessive blood loss.
The incident took place around 1 AM on Tuesday at the Tongi railway station area. The deceased, Joy, was the son of Sirajul Islam of the Bank Math slum area in Tongi.
Police said Joy was returning home late Monday night when several youths attacked him with sharp weapons and fled the scene.
Local residents later informed the Tongi Railway Police Outpost. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. No one had been arrested immediately after the incident.
Police initially suspect that the killing may have stemmed from previous enmity. Officers are also analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify those responsible.
The motive behind the killing was not immediately known. A murder case will be filed with Kamalapur Railway Police Station in Dhaka, said Noor Alam Hossain, in-charge of the Tongi Railway Police Outpost.
