Mass media is a true reflection of a nation's society, culture, and overall progress. The true architects of this reflection are dedicated, fearless journalists and editors.
Throughout the long and arduous journey of Bangladesh's media landscape, Ataur Rahman stands out as a prominent figure among those who have elevated the profession to extraordinary heights through their intellect, integrity, and uncompromising principles. With over four decades of experience holding the torch of journalism, this wise personality founded Dainik Bongolok, a strong platform for neutral and independent freedom of expression.
Today marks the glorious sixth year of this distinguished media outlet. On this auspicious occasion, we extend our heartfelt greetings and warmest congratulations to the countless readers, writers, well-wishers, and correspondents of Dainik Bongolok working both at home and abroad.
Reaching the five-year milestone and stepping into the sixth year is not merely a numerical celebration for a newspaper; rather, it is a testament to an ongoing struggle for objective journalism. Guided by Ataur Rahman's extensive experience and editorial vision, Dainik Bongolok has successfully established itself as one of the country's most trusted media outlets. Having been a direct witness and pioneer through the evolution of media—from the era of lead-type print newspapers to today’s modern digital and online journalism—Ataur Rahman's four decades of expertise are consistently reflected across every page and report of Bongolok.
Behind Ataur Rahman's fearless philosophy of life and lifelong stance against injustice lies deep family and ideological inspiration. His deeply respected teacher and cousin was the valiant freedom fighter and undisputed leader of the working-class people, Martyr Ahsanullah Master, who sacrificed his life in the struggle for the rights of the oppressed and deprived. Inspired by the revolutionary and humanitarian values spread nationwide by Ahsanullah Master through teaching and politics, Ataur Rahman chose the journalist's pen as a weapon for the general public. The spirit of sacrifice inherited from Martyr Ahsanullah Master remains the primary driving force behind Dainik Bongolok’s core editorial policy.
Throughout his long journey in journalism, Ataur Rahman enjoyed the companionship of many renowned and legendary journalists in the country. The mentorship and professional integrity of eminent journalists like Sanaullah Noori, distinguished analyst Mahfuz Ullah, renowned journalist Mizanur Rahman, senior news worker Prabir Mitra, and Abu Sayeed Zuber deeply influenced his editorial vision. Enriched by this wealth of experience, he played a historic role in founding the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in 1995 and served as an executive member of its first elected committee.
Furthermore, as the former treasurer of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), the current president of the Gazipur Journalists Union, and the general secretary of the Bangladesh Journalists Rights Forum (BJRF), he continues his lifelong fight for the rights and welfare of journalists. He was also one of the key proposers for creating the 'Journalist Welfare Trust' to alleviate emergency crises faced by journalists. This organizational mastery and professional competence are finely reflected in the publication of Dainik Bongolok.
To highlight the joys, sorrows, history, and heritage of the people of the Bhawal region, he initially launched the Saptahik Bhawal (Weekly Bhawal). Later, driven by the pressing need for independent, neutral, and objective news on a broader national and international scale, he established Dainik Bongolok.
Since its inception, this newspaper has never bowed to any political party, vested group, or personal interest. Serving as the voice of the oppressed, neglected, and marginalized, Dainik Bongolok has consistently worked as a catalyst for social change. Alongside journalism, Ataur Rahman's sense of social responsibility led him to engage in social work. The 'Hyderabadi Janakalyan Samity,' which he founded in 1979, continues to make unique contributions to the development of local education and healthcare. For his multifaceted social awareness initiatives and analytical writings, he received the 'Writer's Award' from the National Press Club.
His reach extends beyond national borders; his columns and travelogues based on his global travels and visit to Sydney, Australia, vividly capture the lives of expatriate Bangladeshis and highlight the immense potential of Bangladesh on the international stage.
On this auspicious occasion of Dainik Bongolok entering its sixth year, we firmly believe that under the capable editorship of Ataur Rahman, the newspaper will continue its uncompromising and truth-seeking journey in the days ahead.
The pen of Bongolok will forever remain vocal against all forms of injustice and corruption. On this memorable day, our primary commitment and expectation are that Dainik Bongolok will advance toward a centenary milestone while maintaining its courageous role in protecting the country's democracy, human rights, independence, and sovereignty.
