PM Directs Coordinated Action for Pollution-Free Rivers and Livable Environment

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon citizens and officials alike to take active responsibility in building a clean, livable environment and restoring the health of the country's rivers for future generations.

Speaking at a high-level review meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday morning, the Prime Minister emphasized that environmental preservation requires both institutional effort and individual accountability. He urged the public not to wait solely for official directives, but to act with a personal sense of duty toward preserving the surrounding natural ecosystem.

The announcement was confirmed by the Prime Minister's Assistant Press Secretary, Shahriar Pamir.

The meeting evaluated comprehensive strategies to curb pollution, clear waste, and maintain normal water flow across major river systems surrounding the capital, including the Buriganga, Turag, Dhaleshwari, Balu, and Shitalakshya rivers, as well as their connected canals and drainage networks. Officials also reviewed ongoing efforts to ensure water navigability and advance the development of the circular waterway system around Dhaka.

Highlighting the need for swift implementation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to improve inter-organizational coordination and execute existing environmental plans without delay.
