Government Maintains Flood, Landslide Response Across Affected Districts

The government has continued its response efforts to manage the impacts of flash floods, landslides and hill collapses in the southeastern and northeastern districts of the country.

Field-level information offices under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are carrying out awareness campaigns, while the Directorate of Mass Communication's regional, district and upazila information offices have sustained public awareness activities in the affected areas.

According to the latest report from the Chattogram Regional Information Office and the district information office, flooding has affected 15 upazilas and Chattogram metropolitan area. Emergency messages, road campaigns and loudspeaker announcements are being used to advise residents to avoid unsafe houses damaged by floods or heavy rainfall, follow health guidelines, prevent snakebites, protect children, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities, avoid financial transactions while receiving relief, stay away from electric poles and live wires, and prevent dengue by eliminating stagnant water.

The report said light rainfall was recorded in Khagrachari from the afternoon of July 21, with no fresh incidents of landslides or hill collapses. Although floodwaters have receded from most areas, normal conditions have yet to return. The district information office has continued awareness activities on landslides, floods and post-flood safety measures.

In Cox's Bazar, the overall flood situation has improved, though some families remain stranded in parts of Pekua upazila. The district received 2 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, and no new landslides or hill collapses have been reported. Awareness campaigns and loudspeaker announcements on disaster preparedness, dengue, chikungunya and post-flood measures are ongoing.

The report said the situation in Rangamati remains normal, with the district information office continuing road campaigns encouraging residents in landslide-prone areas to move to safer locations.

Bandarban has also returned to normal conditions, according to the latest information. The district recorded 30 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, while water levels in the Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers remain below the danger mark. Floodwaters have receded, and people are returning home from shelters. Awareness campaigns and film screenings on landslides, floods and post-flood safety continue.

According to the Sylhet Regional Information Office and district information offices in Sunamganj and Habiganj, no rainfall was recorded during the past 24 hours until 6:00 am. Although rainfall has eased, water levels in the Surma, Kushiyara, Sarigowain and Piyain rivers have risen slightly due to rainfall in India's Assam and Meghalaya. The Surma at Kanaighat and the Kushiyara at Fenchuganj are flowing above the danger level, but there is no threat of fresh inundation or prolonged flooding. Some low-lying riverside areas are experiencing temporary flooding.

The overall flood situation in Sunamganj remains stable, with the Surma River at Chhatak and the Kushiyara River at Markuli flowing above the danger level.

Habiganj also reported a stable flood situation, with rivers remaining below the danger level and no risk of fresh inundation or prolonged flooding. Public awareness activities are continuing in the district.

The report added that the flood situation in Moulvibazar remains stable. The Manu River is flowing below the danger level, although erosion has been reported at a river protection embankment in Kamalganj upazila. The district information office has continued awareness campaigns during and after the flood period.
