An arson attack was narrowly avoided in the capital on Saturday night after a group of individuals attempted to torch a passenger bus in Mirpur.
According to police and witnesses, the incident took place at approximately 10:00 PM near the Pallabi Metro Station in Mirpur-12. Attackers on a motorcycle poured petrol onto the rear section of a Bihanga Paribahan bus and ignited it before swiftly fleeing the scene.
Quick-thinking crew members onboard managed to contain and extinguish the flames before the fire could spread, preventing major destruction. While a few seats near the back were scorched, no serious damage or casualties were reported.
Md Jalal Uddin, chief of Pallabi Police Station, confirmed that officers visited the location immediately after the incident. "The bus has since been removed. A few seats were burnt. Those who attempted to set the fire have fled, and efforts are underway to identify and track them down," he said.
