Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia move to deepen economic and investment ties

Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations, with Riyadh identifying Bangladesh as a priority partner and expressing interest in expanding economic, investment and business cooperation.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the sidelines of the OIC foreign ministers’ session in Jeddah on Thursday.

During the meeting, Kabir handed over a letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

Both sides welcomed the recent positive developments in bilateral relations and expressed their commitment to expanding cooperation.

Prince Faisal highlighted growing interest among Saudi companies in Bangladesh and said Riyadh was keen to increase investment and business activities in the country. He also praised the contribution of Bangladeshi expatriates to Saudi Arabia’s development.

Kabir said several high-level visits since the formation of the BNP-led government had created new opportunities for broader cooperation between the two countries.

He also mentioned potential high-level visits in the near future and invited the Saudi foreign minister to visit Bangladesh.
