The Ministry of Finance on Saturday issued a gazette notification on the 9th national pay scale for government employees, ending a long wait for the new salary structure.

The new pay scale will come into effect from July 1 this year. However, the basic pay will be implemented in three phases.

Other benefits and allowances under the new pay structure will come into effect from January 1, 2028.

Under the order, employees in grade 9 and above will receive 40 per cent of the total salary increase from July 1 to December 31, 2026, while those in grades 10 to 20 will receive 50 per cent.

From January 1 to June 30, 2027, employees in grade 9 and above will receive 70 per cent of the total increase, while those in grades 10 to 20 will receive 75 per cent.

The revised basic pay, including annual increments, will be implemented in full from July 1, 2027.

Employees will also receive arrears for the period from July 1, 2026, to the date of issuance of the order.

The government has adopted a similar phased approach for pensioners. From July 1 to December 31, 2026, pensioners receiving a net pension of Tk 20,001 or more will get 40 per cent of the total increase, while those receiving Tk 1 to Tk 20,000 will get 50 per cent of the increase added to their existing net pension.

From January 1 to June 30, 2027, the corresponding rates will rise to 70 per cent and 75 per cent respectively.

The full revised net pension, including annual increases, will take effect from July 1, 2027.

Retired employees and lifelong family pensioners will also receive arrears of their net pension for the period from July 1, 2026, to the date of issuance of the order.

The order further states that if an employee retires after completing post-retirement leave between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027, their gross and net pension will be determined under the National Pay Scale, 2026.
