Hundreds of ready-made garment (RMG) workers blocked the major Mirpur-10 intersection in the capital on Thursday morning, demanding a substantial increase in their minimum monthly salary to Tk 30,000.

The demonstration, which began around 10:00 AM on October 29, involved workers from several surrounding garment factories. The blockade brought vehicular movement to a complete standstill across key arterial routes connecting Mirpur, Kazipara, Agargaon, and Uttara, triggering severe traffic gridlock during peak commuting hours.

The blockade halted traffic, causing severe congestion on surrounding roads.

Hasan Mohammad Nasir Rikabdar, deputy commissioner of the Mirpur division of police, said the workers had taken to the streets at Mirpur-10 to press for their demand for a minimum monthly salary of Tk30,000.

He added that police were trying to persuade the workers to leave the roads.
