Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, “Before the election, the current opposition party must have gone to the people. We also did it. The people have decided who will run the state for the next five years. Accordingly, they may have put BNP in the government. And they have also supported the opposition party in that sense. We think the opposition party has ignored the martyrs' families by not attending today's event.”
He said this at the inauguration ceremony of the 'July Memorial' at the capital's Osmani Udyan on Monday morning along with the family members of the martyrs of the July Uprising. At that time, he also inaugurated the modernized Osmani Udyan.
Stating that the current opposition party is opposing only for the sake of opposing, the Prime Minister said, “They will definitely oppose the government. But it should be constructive.”
He alleged that the opposition party does not embrace July. Therefore, despite being invited, the opposition leader did not attend the inauguration ceremony of the July Memorial at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
He said, "If they have any objection to sitting on the same stage with us, they could have sat with the martyrs' familes as well. But we are in the government and they are in the opposition because of their votes."
Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmed, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Moin Khan, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton were also present at the event.
