Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said protecting Bangladesh’s national interests, sovereignty and dignity will remain the government’s foremost commitment, while pursuing cooperation with other countries based on mutual respect and equality.
He made the remarks on Sunday at a National Standard Awarding Ceremony at Savar Cantonment, where several army battalions and regiments received the National Standard in recognition of their professional excellence.
Describing the standard as a symbol of a unit’s history, discipline, sacrifice and professionalism, the prime minister said safeguarding the honour of the national flag was a sacred duty for every soldier.
He said the strength of a modern armed force depends not only on weapons and manpower but also on discipline, leadership, integrity, training and public trust.
Tarique Rahman said the government was working to build a more modern, professional and technology-driven military. He highlighted emerging security challenges involving cyberspace, outer space, drones, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare and information-based capabilities.
The government also prioritises developing a domestic defence industry to produce essential weapons, ammunition and equipment, he said, stressing the need for coordinated capabilities across the army, navy and air force.
