Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Bhandari highlighted similarities between the two countries and said educational ties could expand further, noting that more than 2,500 Nepali students are currently studying medicine in Bangladesh. He also sought Bangladesh’s assistance in rebuilding flood-damaged areas of Nepal, with reconstruction needs estimated at $5 billion.

Moyeen Khan described Nepal as a trusted friend and assured it of Bangladesh’s support. He also called for revitalising the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to strengthen the region’s collective voice on trade, climate change and other global issues.

The minister further urged both countries to expand trade under bilateral and regional agreements, saying stronger regional commerce could reduce transportation costs and improve market access.

Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening and diversifying bilateral relations.
