A German tourist has recovered his stolen laptop in Bangladesh after a joint police operation traced the device to a clothing store in Natore.
Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir formally handed over the laptop to tourist Kirill Lander-Weber at Police Headquarters on Tuesday morning. Senior police officials attended the handover, according to UNB.
Kirill arrived in Bangladesh on September 23 to visit the country’s historical and tourist attractions. On October 7, while waiting at Natore Railway Station to travel to India through the Darshana border, he left his laptop and camera in the station’s waiting room to withdraw money from a nearby ATM. When he returned, both devices were missing, prompting him to seek help from Natore Police Station.
The stolen laptop contained important documents and records of his activities over the previous six months.
Following his written complaint, teams from Natore Sadar Police Station, Natore District Police, Railway Police and Tourist Police jointly investigated the incident. Police recovered his MacBook from Noor Clothing Store in Natore Sadar upazila at around 9:30pm on October 11. The camera’s recovery was not mentioned in the police statement.
Kirill thanked Bangladesh Police and spoke positively about his experience visiting the country.
In recognition of their work in recovering the laptop, the IGP awarded Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Monsur Rahman and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shahadat Hossain financial rewards.
The IGP praised the officers’ efficiency, sincerity, responsibility and teamwork. He also instructed police units nationwide to provide prompt, professional services, ensure the safety of local and foreign citizens, strengthen public trust and help create a welcoming environment for tourists.
