Shankharibazar and Tantibazar, two historic markets in Old Dhaka, are witnessing a surge in shoppers as preparations intensify ahead of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.

Buyers are flocking to the bustling neighbourhoods to purchase festive clothing, traditional conch-shell bangles, vermilion, puja accessories and other essentials for the celebrations.

Shankharibazar’s shops are displaying a variety of conch-shell bangles, traditional bracelets, vermilion and ritual items. Meanwhile, Tantibazar is attracting customers looking for new clothes and other necessities for the festival.

Artisans making traditional drums are also working to meet the seasonal demand as preparations continue across the two neighbourhoods.

Families are gathering supplies for religious rituals and festive decorations, reflecting the cultural traditions and anticipation surrounding Durga Puja.

The shopping rush is expected to grow further as the festival approaches, bringing more customers to the narrow lanes and traditional shops of Old Dhaka.
