A complaint was filed today with the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) over the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

Runi’s brother, Nowsher Alam Roman, submitted the written complaint to ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, seeking its registration and legal action under the International Crimes Tribunal Act following a proper investigation.

The complainant said the families of Sagar and Runi want the ICT to conduct a fair investigation, identify those responsible for the murders, bring them to justice and ensure exemplary punishment.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam told reporters that a formal complaint had been submitted over the killing. He said he would examine whether the matter falls under the ICT’s jurisdiction.

“If we find any evidence or any connection related to the Sagar-Runi murder in any of our investigations, we will provide the information to the relevant investigating agency,” he said.

The journalist couple was murdered at their rented flat in West Rajabazar on February 11, 2012, in the presence of their four-year-old son, Mahir Sarwar Megh.

Runi’s brother Nowsher Alam Roman had filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station following the incident.
