Bangladesh has reiterated its support for establishing an independent, sovereign and viable State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, along with Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam made the call while attending a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two State Solution at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 24. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Shama Obaed also called for the accelerated implementation of arrangements under UNSCR 2803 with clear accountability and Palestinian ownership. She urged continued protection of UNRWA’s mandate and sustained funding, as well as measures to prevent forced displacement and demographic changes in Gaza and to halt settlement expansion.
Ministers and senior representatives from UN member states and international organizations attended the meeting, where they discussed concrete measures to advance implementation of the two-state solution.
