The US Embassy in Dhaka has welcomed Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ planned purchase of 11 additional Boeing aircraft, describing the agreement as beneficial for both the US-Bangladesh relationship.
US Ambassador Christensen said he looked forward to attending the signing ceremony in New York.
The agreement is scheduled to be signed at 4:30 PM, New York time on Wednesday, or 2:30 AM, Thursday Bangladesh time, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The 11 aircraft will be added to Biman’s existing $3.7 billion agreement with Boeing, signed on April 30 for 14 aircraft. That deal includes eight 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9s and four 737-8s.
Once the new agreement is signed, Biman’s planned Boeing purchases will total 25 aircraft. Details of the additional aircraft, including their models, prices, financing and delivery schedules, have not yet been disclosed.
Biman is also pursuing a separate proposal to purchase 10 Airbus aircraft, including four A350-900 widebody jets and six A321neo narrowbody aircraft.
If both deals proceed, Biman’s planned aircraft acquisitions will reach 35, compared with its current fleet of 19 aircraft.
