Production resumed at almost all garment factories in Gazipur on Thursday morning, with workers returning to their workplaces following labour unrest.

No untoward incident or fresh labour unrest was reported as of 9:00am. Meanwhile, factories that had announced sudden holidays on Wednesday also reopened on Thursday morning.

During a visit to Bhogra, Naojor, Board Bazar and Signboard around 8:00am, workers were seen queuing up to enter factories, while production activities were underway as usual.

However, the main gate of Libas Garment Factory on Joydebpur-Shibbari Road remained closed, with 10–12 people standing outside.

Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent Amjad Hossain said “99.99 percent” of garment factories in the district were operational today. Traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways was also normal.

Additional police personnel were deployed at Joydebpur Chowrasta and other key locations to maintain law and order.

Earlier garment workers had been protesting since November 1, demanding an increase in the minimum monthly wage from Tk 12,500 to Tk 30,000.

Following the unrest, the government formed a six-member minimum wage board on November 1, which held its first meeting yesterday. The revised wage structure is expected to take effect in December, with workers receiving their first salaries under it in January 2027.
