Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will begin distributing application forms for battery-run e-rickshaw registration on Tuesday as part of a plan to bring the vehicles under a regulated system and improve traffic management.

Each application form will cost Tk 100 and will be available at Nagar Bhaban and all DSCC regional offices, according to a media statement from the city corporation.

The initiative follows a circular issued by the Local Government Division under the 2026 Rules for the Operation of Battery-Run Low-Speed Three-Wheeled Rickshaws (E-Rickshaws) in City Corporation Areas.

DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam said the registration drive was designed to bring discipline to e-rickshaw operations and make journeys safer for city residents.

He cautioned that purchasing or collecting an application form would not automatically qualify a vehicle for registration. Certificates will be issued only to vehicles that meet the eligibility requirements, satisfy technical standards set by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and pass the required verification process.

The corporation aims to bring e-rickshaws under a formal regulatory framework and reduce the number of unauthorised and unfit vehicles operating on city roads.

Applicants must be Bangladeshi citizens and submit the required documents with their applications. These include an attested copy of their national identity card, two recent passport-sized photographs, the original bank deposit slip showing payment of the prescribed fee, and a fitness certificate in the specified format.

Each applicant will be allowed to collect up to five forms and register a maximum of five e-rickshaws using a single NID card.

Under the proposed management plan, DSCC will divide its jurisdiction into four zones to regulate e-rickshaw numbers and assign designated routes.

The zone-based system will be introduced after consultations with traffic police and other relevant stakeholders.
