Jagannath University will celebrate its 21st founding anniversary on Monday with a daylong programme featuring a rally, documentary screening, discussion, prayers, cultural performances and a concert.

The anniversary theme this year is “Tarunno Dipto Pran—Oikyoboddho Jagannath”.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is scheduled to attend as the chief guest, while Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rais Uddin will preside over the event, according to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations, Information and Publication Office on Sunday.

The celebrations will begin at 9:00 AM with the hoisting of the national and university flags. The national anthem will then be played, followed by the release of balloons and pigeons by the vice-chancellor.

A rally will leave the campus at 9:45 AM, pass through Ray Saheb Bazar and reach Victoria Park before returning to the university.

A documentary and film exhibition will begin at 10:15 AM, followed by a discussion at the central auditorium at 10:30 AM. Prayers will also be held at the university’s central mosque.

The afternoon programme will start at 2:00 PM on the Science Building premises, featuring music, dance and other performances by the university’s Cultural Centre, Abritti Sangsad, Udichi Shilpigoshthi and other groups.

The university’s Band Music Association will also organise performances featuring Offside, Komol Ghandhar, Kimbhut, Rangabhumi and Swarup.

A concert by Nagarbaul James is scheduled for 6:30 PM as the main attraction of the celebrations.

The university administration said preparations had been completed to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Founded in 2005 as a public university in Dhaka, Jagannath University is marking 21 years since its establishment.
