Bangladesh earned $17.04 billion from merchandise exports in the first four months of fiscal year 2026–27, marking a 6 per cent increase from $16.08 billion in the same period a year earlier.
The country generated an additional $960 million during July–October, with the readymade garment (RMG) sector accounting for most of the growth, according to Bangladesh Bank’s product-wise export statistics.
Knitwear exports rose 7 per cent to $7.71 billion, while woven garment shipments increased 4.8 per cent to $6 billion.
Together, the two categories earned $13.71 billion, representing around 80.4 per cent of Bangladesh’s total merchandise export earnings.
Several non-RMG sectors also recorded growth. Exports of jute and jute goods increased 23.8 per cent to $383 million, while leather and leather products rose 12.7 per cent to $464 million.
Chemical product exports grew 27.3 per cent to $157 million. Home textiles and footwear recorded increases of 7.4 per cent and 9.7 per cent, reaching $263 million and $194 million respectively.
Among other products, exports of wigs and human hair surged 86.4 per cent to $94 million. Shipments of ores, slag and ash rose 63.7 per cent to $26 million, while carpet exports increased 37 per cent to $17 million.
However, several export categories experienced declines during the period.
Agricultural exports fell 13.5 per cent to $325 million, while frozen and live fish exports dropped 10.9 per cent to $152 million.
Exports of cotton and cotton products, including yarn, waste and fabrics, declined 10.2 per cent to $170 million. Paper and paper product exports also fell 18.2 per cent to $75 million.
The figures indicate continued growth in the garment sector alongside expansion in several non-RMG industries, despite setbacks in some traditional export categories.
