The Directorate of Government Accommodation has directed government employees to remove tenants and subtenants from their allotted residences by Saturday, October 31, warning that violations could lead to cancellation of the allotment and disciplinary action.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, the directorate instructed allottees not to rent out government houses or flats, either wholly or partially, under its jurisdiction.

The notice said an inspection team had recently found that some employees had rented out one or two rooms or even their entire allotted residences to others. Such practices violate the Bangladesh Allocation Rules, 1982.

Employees who have already rented out all or part of their allotted homes have been instructed to remove their tenants or subtenants by the deadline.

The directorate also directed allottees to personally reside in the houses or flats assigned to them.

According to the notice, if any tenant or subtenant is found living in an allotted residence after October 31, the allotment will be cancelled without another show-cause notice. The allottee will also face disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the relevant rules.
