Bangladesh Railway extended the Mahanagar Express service to Cox's Bazar from Monday, allowing passengers from five districts to travel to the popular tourist destination by train.

The No. 721/722 train previously operated between Dhaka and Chattogram. The extension will benefit passengers from Narsingdi, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria, Comilla and Feni.

Railway Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam is scheduled to inaugurate the extended service at Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station on Monday evening. Preparations for the launch have been completed.

Under the revised schedule, Mahanagar Express No. 721 will depart Cox's Bazar at 9:00 am and reach Chattogram at 12:10 pm before leaving at 12:30 pm for Dhaka, where it is scheduled to arrive at 6:30 pm.

Train No. 722 will leave Dhaka at 8:30 pm and reach Chattogram at 2:40 am. It will depart Chattogram at 3:00 am and arrive in Cox's Bazar at 6:00 am.

Ticket sales for the extended service have already begun. Tickets for the first day sold out quickly, with strong demand continuing for subsequent days, according to reports.

The train has more than 700 seats and remains closed on Sundays.

The new connection is expected to make travel easier for passengers from the five districts and support tourism, family trips and personal travel to Cox's Bazar.
