German Vice-Minister Bärbel Kofler is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday for a three-day official visit aimed at shaping future development cooperation and strengthening bilateral dialogue between Bangladesh and Germany.
In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the German Embassy said Kofler would lead a delegation from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The discussions come as Bangladesh undergoes economic transformation and prepares for its graduation from the United Nations’ least developed country (LDC) category. Talks will focus on long-term resilience, economic adaptability and sustainable growth.
Germany, a longstanding development partner of Bangladesh, hopes to strengthen cooperation through the bilateral discussions.
According to the embassy, Bangladesh’s changing development needs and its transition out of the LDC category have created a need to explore new areas of cooperation beyond traditional assistance frameworks.
During her visit, Kofler will take part in political dialogue and visit development projects in Chattogram.
In Dhaka, she will also attend a German Reunification Day celebration hosted by the German Embassy. Senior officials from Bangladesh and Germany, civil society representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, and cultural and media figures are expected to attend.
The occasion commemorates the historic reunification of East and West Germany in 1990, following decades of division during the Cold War.
The embassy said the visit reflects Germany’s continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s sustainable development.
