A fire that broke out at a warehouse of Supreme Garments in Kashimpur, Gazipur, on Saturday was brought under control at around 1:50 PM, according to the Fire Service.
The blaze started at around 11 AM at a warehouse storing cartons in the Paschim Shoildubi area. Eight firefighting units responded to the incident and worked to contain the fire.
Ariful Islam, an official of Kashimpur Fire Service, said the large quantity of empty cartons inside the warehouse contributed to the intensity of the blaze.
Saiful Alam Chowdhury, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said firefighting efforts were hampered by water shortages and narrow roads in the area, which made it difficult for emergency vehicles to reach the site. He also said wind conditions were contributing to the movement of smoke and potentially aiding the spread of the fire. Despite the challenges, firefighters continued efforts to extinguish the blaze. Chowdhury added that several industrial facilities operate in the surrounding area, but many lack adequate water supplies.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. No casualties have been reported.
