An underground explosion at a mine near Kilimli in Turkey’s northern Zonguldak province killed two workers and injured five others on Friday. Rescue teams continued searching for another worker believed to be trapped underground.

The cause of the blast remains unknown. Emergency medical personnel and rescue workers were sent to the site to treat the injured and locate the missing worker.

Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacibektasoglu said two of the injured workers were in critical condition. One was being transferred to Ankara for further treatment.

Turkey has a history of deadly mining accidents. In 2014, a fire at a coal mine in Soma, western Turkey, claimed 301 lives in one of the country’s worst mining disasters.
