The bus involved in Tuesday’s deadly crash in Natore was operating without a valid fitness certificate, according to the head of the investigation team.

Additional District Magistrate Abul Hayat said the bus was speeding and trying to overtake another vehicle when it struck a truck coming from the opposite direction in Baraigram upazila.

The collision left 14 people dead and 30 others injured. Investigators visited the crash site in Bonpara Municipality and spoke with residents before meeting injured passengers at Natore Sadar General Hospital.

A seven-member committee formed by the district administration is examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the bus’s expired fitness certificate. A case has also been filed over the accident, and the committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations after completing the investigation.
