National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has said State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain became a victim of the home minister’s failure, referring to his resignation from the cabinet.

“The problem lies with the home minister. Ishraque has been caught up in this. The home minister commits the fault, but someone else has to pay for it,” Nasiruddin told reporters on Monday after exchanging Durga Puja greetings at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka.

He said Ishraque had entered politics intending to curb drug-related activities but lost his ministerial post after becoming caught up in the situation. Nasiruddin described Ishraque’s intentions as good but blamed the home minister for the outcome.

The NCP leader also expressed concern over the security of the Hindu community, saying its members were not feeling safe despite the BNP government’s reported pledge to protect all citizens.

He alleged that incidents of vandalism had been reported in different parts of the country over the past three to four months.

Referring to the cow-slaughter incident at Jagannath University, Nasiruddin urged Muslims to avoid actions that could hurt or offend Hindus. He also suggested holding discussions with members of the Hindu community when necessary.
