Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government has no immediate plan to launch an operation similar to ‘Operation Clean Heart’, while efforts to curb crime continue.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Cyber Police Centre in Chattogram on Wednesday, he said the government plans to establish advanced digital forensic laboratories in all eight divisions to tackle cybercrime.

He warned that social media and other digital platforms are increasingly being used to spread rumours, incite violence, leak sensitive information and carry out digital blackmail. The Cyber Police Unit has already begun operations to strengthen law enforcement’s capacity to address such crimes.

The minister said the proposed laboratories would help speed up cybercrime trials. He also noted that attacks on police officers can occur while they are performing their crime-prevention duties.

Built with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Cyber Police Centre in Dampara cost around Tk 59.08 crore. South Korean Ambassador Kim Ji-Joon, senior police officials and local representatives attended the inauguration.
