Finance Minister Amir Khosru has called for Bangladesh to strengthen its soft power by developing its cultural identity and creative industries.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of Bangladesh Shishu Academy’s 50th anniversary, he said national strength should not be measured by economic size alone, with culture, arts, music, film, theatre and sports also shaping a country’s identity.

He urged families and society to give children opportunities to explore interests beyond academics, including sports, drawing, music and creative activities, while ensuring equal opportunities for boys and girls.

Khosru said the government is working to bring artists, filmmakers, theatre practitioners and traditional artisans into the mainstream economy through a new creative economy initiative.

He also stressed exposing children to nature and protecting biodiversity, noting declines in birds, butterflies, insects and fish as habitats shrink.

The minister further encouraged parents to answer children’s questions and maintain open communication, saying early childhood is crucial for developing curiosity and creativity.
