Police have arrested Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi, a former Awami League lawmaker from the Netrokona-1 constituency, in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a house on Iqbal Road at around 5:00pm and detained Ruhi, Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Halim said. He was later taken to the police station, where legal procedures were being carried out.
Ruhi was elected to parliament from Netrokona-1, covering Durgapur and Kalmakanda, in the 12th parliamentary election on an Awami League ticket. He had previously won the same seat in the 2008 parliamentary election.
According to police, Ruhi had been in hiding since August 5, 2024. Several cases have been filed against him.
The Awami League’s activities remain banned.
