Bangladesh Bank Governor Mostaqur Rahman has urged India to increase imports from Bangladesh to help reduce the bilateral trade imbalance between the two countries.

He made the call during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at the central bank headquarters on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on strengthening Bangladesh-India economic, trade and financial ties, according to a Bangladesh Bank press release.

Trivedi stressed the need to further facilitate foreign investment in Bangladesh.

In response, Mostaqur said the central bank had already taken several policy measures to create a more investment-friendly environment, allowing foreign investors to repatriate their invested funds and profits more easily.

He also urged Indian investors to increase investment in Bangladesh’s technology-driven, manufacturing and industrial sectors.

The governor also expressed interest in India’s experience in expanding Bangla QR and cross-border digital payments, as well as possible technical cooperation in these areas.

Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Habibur Rahman and Sarwar Hossain, Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawankumar Badhe and Second Secretary (Economic and Commerce) Gourab Kumar Agarwal attended the meeting.
