Two Bangladeshi feature films, Roid and Delupi, have received international recognition at the Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain.

Directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, Roid won Best Film in the Official Section, while Mohammad Touqir Islam’s Delupi received a Special Mention in the Other Narratives Section.

Both films had already been released in Bangladeshi cinemas before receiving the latest honours.

Sumon announced the achievement in a Facebook post on Wednesday, expressing gratitude for the Best Film award. Producer Mushfiqur Rahman described the recognition as a major milestone for Bangladeshi cinema, saying it was invaluable to see the team's hard work acknowledged internationally.

Director Touqir Islam also confirmed Delupi's recognition in a Facebook post, congratulating both his own team and the crew of Roid.

Organised by Casa Asia, the festival showcased films from around the world across several competitive categories.

Earlier, Roid won Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Music at the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada. It has also been selected as Bangladesh's official submission for the 99th Academy Awards.

The film follows a man named Sadhu, his mentally unstable wife and a solitary palm tree near their home. It stars Mostafizur Noor Imran alongside Nazifa Tushi.

Produced by Footprint Film Production, Delupi is based on the 2024 embankment collapse in Khulna and the political turmoil surrounding it. The film has received its second international honour following lead actor Chiranjit Biswas's Best Actor award at the Tasveer Film Festival. It has also been screened at the Rotterdam and Karawan film festivals.
