Michael B. Jordan has been spotted in first-look images and on-set footage for Universal’s Miami Vice ’85, playing undercover detective Ricardo Tubbs as production gets underway on the big-screen reboot of the iconic 1980s crime series.

Jordan appears in an all-black outfit—leather jacket, black shirt, and dotted tie—with a beard that gives the character a sharper, more intense look. He stars opposite Austin Butler, who plays Sonny Crockett and is shown in a grey suit aiming a gun in his own first-look image.

New behind-the-scenes clips show Jordan’s Tubbs arriving in a light-grey suit before later sprinting down an empty street at night with a pistol in hand. The footage offers a small but action-heavy glimpse of the detective in motion, confirming that filming is actively progressing.

The reboot is directed by Joseph Kosinski, with Dan Gilroy involved as writer-director, and is set in the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami.

Cast and production

Alongside Jordan and Butler, the ensemble includes Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, Walton Goggins, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, Andre Holland, Michael Irby, and Whitney Peak.

Filming began in Wayne, New Jersey, earlier this month, with additional shooting planned in New York City and Miami. The film is currently scheduled for release in May 2028.

Jordan takes over the role of Tubbs, originally played by Philip Michael Thomas in the 1984–89 series and later by Jamie Foxx in Michael Mann’s 2006 film adaptation.
