OpenAI expects its annualized revenue to reach or exceed $70 billion by the end of 2026, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The ChatGPT maker’s annualized revenue stood at about $50 billion at the end of September, according to the report.

OpenAI shared the figures with investors during discussions for its latest fundraising round.

The company expects enterprise business to drive most of the additional revenue growth.

The report came hours after the Financial Times said OpenAI’s revenue was running about $20 billion below earlier signals, triggering a selloff in technology shares on Thursday.

US stock futures rose after Bloomberg’s report, suggesting investors saw the revenue outlook as less damaging than initially feared.

OpenAI declined to comment on the reports.

Annualized revenue projects yearly sales from a shorter period, but AI companies do not always calculate it in the same way.

Some investors had previously estimated OpenAI was approaching $70 billion using a method associated with rival Anthropic, which counts cloud-provider sales differently.

To reach $70 billion by December, OpenAI’s run rate would need to grow roughly 40% in the final quarter.

OpenAI is reportedly in talks to raise $30 billion or more at a $1.4 trillion pre-money valuation, with UAE-based MGX among potential anchor investors.

The company raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation, including new capital.

OpenAI has delayed its IPO until at least next year, citing a focus on AI safety.

The company remains unprofitable and has reportedly projected $280 billion in cash burn by 2030.

Upcoming corporate earnings will test whether AI revenue can keep pace with massive infrastructure spending.
